Toronto's IPTV Zones
So according to the map below we have 6 zones. I do not include Scarborough in my report only because I have no experience with how IPTV service works in that zone. So lets assume Toronto has five IPTV zones. North York, Etobicoke, Downtown, West End and East End.
I first became aware of IPTV service in Toronto around 15 years ago, in 2011 while working online as a webmaster. I recall my Father was complaining of his bills constantly increasing and he was not satisfied with his services. I am not sure how but he knew a guy called Glen and he set him up on some form of iptv for $20 a month. Not bad considering he was living on a pension fixed income and his cable bill is running $120 a month. What I would do today in this example is simply sign him up on the OLD AGE/ODSP plan for $60 Canadian dollars. That is $5 per month. I would manually set it up and have the person running in less than five minutes.
Zone 1 - Etobicoke is an excellent area with very little issues. Nothing worth reporting. It simply works good in all regions
Zone 2 - West End is another great area, where I lived most of my life. Mostly residential so youhtly wont run into into buffering issues.
Zone 3 - East End is slightly problematic in the are Beeches area. Generally near the boardwalk. I am not sure why but the solution to buffering will become apparent shortly.
Zone 4 - North York now has some major issues. From the start of 2025 until March 2026 the IPTV service in North York was always choppy, buffering, slow and generally unstable. Now this was not all the time. Generally at night between 7-11pm or on major sporting event days. However like stated above I have a unique solution that has worked so far in every situation.
Zone 5 - Downtown is a tricky area. On the one hand you have wifi everywhere. For example I live right on Dundas St East. I get great connection until 4pm then something happens. Buffering! However there is a solution.
Buffering Issue in Toronto Solved
First of all why does buffering exist? Well a number of reasons. Lets simplify it so I can explain how I have solved the issue in all cases. Ok first of you will need an iphone or another device that you can cast. Basically your sharing your cellular data to use as your streaming source. I use Rogers with Priority Access. I have a special Access Plan that ar for ODSP clients. I have unlimited data and talk for $25/month. I use cellular data as my wifi connection.
Using your cellular data along with wifi I have had zero buffering issues. The other option is to pause the video let it load for a while but that is frustrating.
Listen if your receive old age pension are on ODSP you can have a data plan use it as your wifi at home, get a subscription and your paying $32.99 a month. That includes all data, talk, internet, iptv service. Its incredible really.
